Wrap: WC East takes own Colley Classic; Cummings 2nd at King of the Mountain

WEST CHESTER  – West Chester East defended its home turf Saturday, winning the Colley Classic for the first time since 1999.

Noah Hankin (132) and Caleb Subach (132) garnered first-place finishes for the Vikings, whose 168 points bested second-place Harry S. Truman (167) and third-place Pottsgrove (144.5). Also for WC East, Eric Gassenmayer placed second at 195 while Tommy Luke (126) and Nick Phillips (138) finished third.

King of the Mountain

Downingtown East’s Wade Cummings fell in the 132-pound championship final 6-2 to Council Rock South’s Zack Trampe to headline the Cougars’ 25th-place finish at Central Mountain High. Posting triumphs in Consolation Round 4 for D-East were Lukas Richie (106), James Strommer (113), Alec Horne (170) and Brendan McGinley (285). The top 3  finishers in the 33-team event were Bethlehem Catholic (214 points), Boyertown (182) and Nazareth (162). Henderson placed 29th in the King of the Mountain behind Consolation Round 4 winners Jacob Reid (113), Ray Martin (126), Matt Phayre (132) and Jonathan Earley (170).

Milford (Del.) Tournament

Jake Taylor notched a major decision in the 120-pound championship final to key Unionville’s strong showing that also included third-place medals for Tim Weber (113) and Mitch Camp (138); fourths from Nicky Raffety (170) and Dylan Smallacombe (182) and fifths from Sam Immediato (126) and Michael Maguire (195). Gavin Grim (145) and Jack Baccellieri (285) added sixth-place finishes while Garett Rogers (106) and Joe Caldwell (132) finished seventh for the Indians.

Spartan Duals

Octorara finished 3-2 in the Dual meet tournament at Springfield (Montco) with wins over Radnor (40-14), Glen Mills (53-24) and Springfield, Montco (52-18) and losses to Martin Luther King (45-32) and Whitehall (48-33). Leading the way for the Braves with perfect 5-0 slates were Seth Hoopes (113), Liam Babauta (120), Noah Hoopes (145), Caden Dalton (152) and Scott Burridge (160).
