Wrap: Maddie Dew drops 33 points in Downingtown West win

MALVERN – Maddie Dew torched the nets for 33 points to power Downingtown West to a 64-44 rout of Chester at the Great Valley Tip-Off Tournament Friday.

Dew connected for a trio of three-pointers to help spark a quick start by the Whippets, who led 19-9 after one quarter, 35-19 at the half and 48-37 heading into the final frame. Chipping in with 15 points for Downingtown West, which faces Great Valley Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the round-robin event, was Hannah Supplee.

Avon Grove 58, Octorara 29 – The Red Devils scored the Ches-Mont League win behind Mackenzie Boyer (12 points), Missy Crowell (11 points) and Regan Cook (13 rebounds, 7 points). Brielle Kirk fired in a game-high 18 points in a losing effort for the Braves, who were outscored 19-0 in the fourth quarter as Avon Grove pulled away from a narrow 39-29 advantage.

Unionville 46, West Chester Henderson 31 – Maddie Shanahan posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Micayla Flores cashed in 21 points to propel the Indians to the season-opening win at the Ches-Mont Division Challenge at Coatesville. For the Warriors, Emma Bertando led the way with 12 points.

Central Bucks West 77, West Chester Rustin 61 – Noelle Powell hit for 26 points but it wasn’t enough as the Golden Knights dropped their season opener. Rustin led 41-35 at the break, but was outscored 42-20 over the final 16 minutes in the loss.
