Wrap: Lannon, Savage propel Sun Valley past Pottstown; Rustin drills Octorara

GBB_20141222_PTvsSunValleyPOTTSTOWN  – Kate Lannon posted a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds to power Sun Valley to a 67-38 nonleague girls’ basketball romp over Pottstown Monday night.

A 5-foot-9 sophomore forward, Lannon also blocked five shots and got plenty of help from sophomore forward Shannon Savage, who connected for a game-high 20 points and added 9 boards.

“We shot the ball pretty well tonight, and that is something we’ve been trying to work on,” said veteran Sun Valley coach Frank Ridpath after the Vanguards upped their overall record to 5-1. “Kate Lannon is a great rebounder and scorer and Shannon Savage had her best game of the season.”

The Vanguards set the tone from the opening tip, racing out to leads of 15-6 after one quarter and 36-19 at the break. Madison Corrento chipped in with 15 points as Sun Valley kept up the pace in the second half, posting a 31-19 advantage.

The wire-to-wire effort came at a good time for Sun Valley, which faces Ches-Mont League American Division rival Great Valley Tuesday night.

“As a team, this was the best we’ve shot all year,” said Ridpath. “That’s a good sign going into the Great Valley game, which is a big game for us.”

The loss was the fifth straight for the Trojans (2-5), who got a team-high 10 points from Terri Chestnut.
