Wrap: Downingtown East’s Paige Warfel drops 24 points on Downingtown West

GBB_20141216_DEvsDW_warfelDOWNINGTOWN – Paige Warfel lit up the gym for 24 points – including 15 in the first half – to power Downingtown East to a 39-36 Ches-Mont League National Division win over crosstown rival Downingtown West Tuesday night.

The Cougars built leads of 23-17 at the intermission and 37-30 heading into the fourth quarter and held on for the win, despite managing just two points over the final 8 minutes. Lindsay Kent added 8 points for Downingtown East, which evened its slate at 1-1 in the league and 2-2 overall.

For the Whippets (1-1, 3-2), Maddie Dew collected a team-high 14 points and came up just short on a three-point attempt at the final buzzer from midcourt in an attempt to extend the game. Holly Schnack chipped in with 10 for West.

Bishop Shanahan 50, West Chester Henderson 45 – The Eagles used a 15-6 run in the fourth quarter to secure the Ches-Mont National win. Leading the way for Shanahan were Grace Phillips (17 points) and Ciara Forde (10), offsetting Maddie DePrisco’s game-high 21 points for the Warriors.

Great Valley 42, Oxford 30 – Sadie Buzan led a a balanced effort with 11 points and Ashlyn Smith chipped in with 9 for the Patriots, who won each quarter in the American Division conquest. For the Hornets, Hannah Bahls led all scorers with 14 points.

Sun Valley 40, Unionville 36 – Kate Lannan posted a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Vanguards to the American Division win. For the Indians, Micayla Flores and Madelyn Shanahan hit double figures with 15 and 11 points, respectively. Sun Valley sealed the deal down the stretch when Madison Corrento and Brooke Duncan both went 2-for-2 at the free throw line.
