Wrap: Betley hits 1,000 in Downingtown West win; Kennett edges Unionville

WEST CHESTER – Penn recruit Ryan Betley hit the 1,000-point plateau for his career as Downingtown West used a strong finish and balanced scoring attack to post a 66-51 Ches-Mont League National Division victory over West Chester East Thursday night.

Betley (21 points, 3 treys), Josh Warren (16) and Dom Guerrera (15, 2 treys) all hit for double figures to pace the Whippets (2-0, 6-1), who pulled away from a narrow 4-point lead with a 17-6 run in the fourth quarter.
For the Vikings (1-2 league), Milaj Singletary Thomas led the way with 14 points, Zoe Murrey posted 10 and Steve Phelan hit for 9 on the strengths of three triples.

Kennett 54, Unionville 52 – Connor McGlone dropped 17 points and Matt Kelly added 14 to propel the Blue Demons (1-2)  to the narrow Ches-Mont American win. For the Indians (1-2), Austin Fullington (20 points), Pat Clark (12) and Kyle Goodler (9) led the way.

Octorara 67, Sun Valley 64 – The unbeaten Braves (3-0, 7-0) survived a late scare to secure the Ches-Mont American victory as Christian Ray (23 points), Jackson Ray (18) and Saaleem Pugh (10) all hit for double figures.
Trailing 54-38 entering the fourth quarter, the Vanguards (1-1) made things interesting with a 26-13 blitz that left them one possession short of forcing overtime.  Sun Valley was paced at the offensive end by Kyle Ryan (19 points), Ryan Hall (17) and Wali Sabree (16).

Oxford 75, Rustin 68 (OT) – The Hornets (1-2 league) posted a 13-6 advantage in overtime to record the Ches-Mont American victory as Thomas Cruz (25 points), Shane Quigley (21), Tyler Farr (12) and Brian Dorsey (11) all hit double figures.
For the Golden Knights (0-2 league), Tyler Ramirez finished with 20 points, Ryan Loucks added 16 and Jake Nelson chipped in with 12.

Bishop Shanahan 56, Downingtown East 47 – The Eagles (2-1) built a 41-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter and held on from there to register the Ches-Mont National verdict.
Dan Browne (11 points) and Kevin Dodds (10) sparked a balanced effort for Shanahan. Leading the way for the host Cougars (1-2) were Jaret Cooper with 10 points and Malik Slay with 8.

Avon Grove 58, Henderson 42 – Brandon McCullough finished with four three-balls and a game-high 20 points to pace the Red Devils (1-2 league), who led from wire-to-wire in the Ches-Mont American clash.
Also for Avon Grove, which led 31-17 at the break and expanded that advantage to 47-26 heading into the fourth quarter, Destin Murphy collected 13 points and Scooter Whiteside and Andrew Brady had 8 points apiece. Adrien Piel netted 12 points for the Warriors (0-2 league).
