West Chester East’s Cowles takes charge at Unionville

EAST MARLBOROUGH – Chris Cowles had decided to jump across Ches-Mont League divisions to become the new head boys’ basketball coach at Unionville.

The former West Chester East head coach, who posted a 13-31 mark in two seasons with the Vikings, succeeds Joe Kilpatrick at Unionville. Kilpatrick stepped down following the 2016-17 season.

“This is a great opportunity for me because it comes with a teaching position and I am excited to get that part of my career in motion,” Cowles said in the Daily Local News. “And I am excited for the Unionville job. I want us to be a team that understands offensive and defensive drills, and as a team to always maximize our potential and always play up to our abilities.”

Cowles, who played point guard at West Chester Rustin and has served as an assistant coach at Downingtown West and West Chester University under Damien Blair, inherits a team that went 8-14 in 2016-17 and has missed the district playoffs for six years.
