West Chester East wins eighth straight; DeFreitas propels Downingtown West – updated

West Chester East 2, Coatesville 1 – The Vikings scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an infield error following rally-starting singles by Sam Gomez and Lexi Wilson in their narrow Ches-Mont League National Division win Monday.
The victory was the eighth straight for WC East (14-2), the No. 1 ranked team in District 1-Class 5A.
Jess Gomez earned the win in the circle, scattering six hits and striking out seven in outdueling Natalie Florschutz, who allowed just four hits and struck out nine. Florschutz and Kayla Bock collected two hits each for the Red Raiders (10-7).

Downingtown West 15, Avon Grove 1 – Morgan DeFreitas drove in four runs with a single, double and home run, Cait Coker and Carly Grandizio also connected for three hits apiece and Taylor Posner, winning pitcher Natalie Beebe and Hannah Greider drove in two runs apiece as the Whippets drilled the Red Devils behind three big innings in Ches-Mont National action.
D-West built an 8-0 lead with four-run bursts in the first and third innings before closing out the rout with seven runs in the seventh.
Downingtown East 10, Great Valley 8 – Steph Jacoby drove in seven runs with three doubles and a home run, Grace McKelvey and Nicki Sudall had three hits apiece and Val Ponto chipped in with two hits and two RBI to lift the Cougars (10-5, 12-5) to the Ches-Mont crossover triumph.
Amanda Heins belted a two-run homer for the Patriots, who got two hits and two RBI apiece from Katie Olafson and Kaitlyn Koester.

Oxford 6, Unionville 4 – The Hornets pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh to secure the Ches-Mont American decision and improve to 11-6 on the season.
Gianna Coyle collected three hits including two doubles, Karly Rees blasted a two-run homer and Maddie Frank went the distance in the circle for the win to pace Oxford. For the Indians, Madeline Frich was 2-2 with a double and two RBI and losing pitcher Sydney Horan was 3-3 with a double and RBI.
