Sun Valley ‘staff’ delivers win; Schmidt, Porter propel Avon Grove

Sun Valley 8, Rustin 6, 9 innings – The Vanguards used almost their entire pitching staff in the Ches-Mont League American Division win Wednesday.
Sun Valley snapped a 7-7 tie with two runs in the top of the ninth inning on a Jack Youhouse single, sacrifice bunt, two Rustin errors and an RBI-single from Colin Porter to seal the deal.
Joey Greco (2 IP), Ryan Kester (2 IP), Youhouse (1 IP), Vinny DeAngelo (2 IP), and Porter (2 IP) combined to allow just 2 earned runs in 9 innings for Sun Valley. Starter Ben Watson threw a solid 5 innings for Rustin, allowing 4 hits and 3 runs (2 earned), while striking out 7 and walking 3.

Avon Grove 4, Downingtown West 2 – Karl Schmidt allowed just four hits while striking out three in his complete-game win and Bryce Porter slammed a two-run homer in the third inning to lift the Red Devils to the Ches-Mont National triumph.
For the Whippets, who played errorless ball, Evan Williams went 2-3 with an RBI.

Unionville 9, Oxford 6 – Alex Pelegrin’s grand slam was the big blow in a seven-run second inning that carried the Indians to the Ches-Mont American triumph.
Henry Goodier went 2-4 to pace Unionville, which played flawlessly in the field. For the Hornets, Tyler Brooks led the way at the plate going 3-4 with two RBI.
Downingtown East 11, Henderson 1, 6 innings – The Cougars raked 14 hits in the Ches-Mont National romp, triggered by Tommy Ajjan, Will Vincent and Ryan Fick with three hits apiece.
David Owsik worked 5.2 strong innings for the win, allowing just five hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out six.

Jake Coehlo went 2-3 with two runs and Mason Griffin added a pair of RBI in support of winning pitcher Ryan Basarab (5 IP, 9 strikeouts) for WC East. Anthony Boccio’s solo home run accounted for the lone Red Raiders’ run.
