State boys cross country: Sewall helps Downingtown West place third

HERSHEY – Downingtown West senior Payton Sewall (16:37.34) led the Ches-Mont League boys qualifiers with a ninth-place finish to help the Whippets place third (121 points) behind North Allegheny (90) and La Salle (112) at the PIAA Class 3A cross country championships Saturday at Hershey’s Parkview Course.

District One and Ches-Mont League champion Cole Walker of Unionville placed 11th (16:43). Mount Lebanon’s Patrick Anderson took the top spot in 16:03.

Other top 30 Ches-Mont finishers included Downingtown West senior Isaac Valderrabano (16th, 16:49), Unionville senior Cole Driver (23rd, 16:55) and Unionville sophomore Ethan McIntyre (29th, 16:57). Unionville placed sixth in the boys team competition.
