Smuda’s 21 paces Downingtown East; Merten, Klieber, McDonald spark West Chester East

Downingtown East 54, Bishop Shanahan 41 – Bella Smuda deposited a game-high 21 points for the Cougars in their wire-to-wire Ches-Mont League National Division victory Thursday night.
For the Eagles, who were unable to erase deficits of 13-9 after one quarter and 29-17 at the break, Kathryn Greenhut led the way with 14 points.

West Chester East 51, Downingtown West 36 – The Vikings limited the Whippets to 11 points in the second half in securing the Ches-Mont National triumph.
Megan Merten hit for 16 points, Lauren Klieber added 14 and Marissa McDonald chipped in with 13 for WC East, which pulled away from a 32-25 halftime lead behind its stiff defense and balanced scoring attack. For D-West, Ketlee Staz and Julia Marone finished with 8 points each.

Henderson 40, Avon Grove 18 – Grace Ferguson filled the stat sheet with 12 points, 16 rebounds and 8 blocks and Michaella Meredith chipped in with 14 points and 8 rebounds to lift the Warriors, who set the tone by blanking the Red Devils 13-0 in the first quarter.

Rustin 42, Oxford 18 – The Golden Knights established control with a 16-6 surge in the first quarter, eventually building the lead to an insurmountable 41-14 by the end of the third quarter behind a ferocious defensive effort that forced 17 turnovers.
Dikaya Daniels netted 16 points to pace Rustin, offsetting Jamie Herrin’s team-high 5 for the Hornets.
