Roundup: Sigovich stages hitting clinic in Downingtown East win

EXTON – Eric Sigovich drove home three runs with a single, double and home run to carry Downingtown East to a 9-3 Ches-Mont League baseball win over Unionville Friday.

The Cougars (1-1 National), who scored three runs in the first and tacked on four more in the second to set the tone, also got a pair of doubles from winning pitcher Kyle Ajjin.

For the Indians (1-2 American, 1-3 overall), Nick Ward picked up a pair of hits and Drew Jarmuz went 1-for-2 with a stolen base.

Avon Grove 9, Sun Valley 0 – Joe Thompson struck out five and allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings and Elliott Forde drove across four runs to lead the Red Devils (2-0) to the Ches-Mont triumph.

Leading just 1-0 through four, Avon Grove blew things open with four-spots in the fifth and sixth innings. Forde had a bases-loaded triple during the burst, while John D’Aquinno (double, single, 2 runs) and Mike Deitz (3-for-4, 2 runs) also made solid contributions at the plate for the winners.

Great Valley 17, Kennett 0 (3 innings) – The Patriots (3-0, 4-0) broke things open with 15 runs in the second inning en route to the easy victory – shortened to three innings by the 15-run mercy rule.

Jack Nonnemacher went 3-for-3 with a double and Austin Lenker also doubled for Great Valley, which parlayed eight hits, eight walks and several Kennett errors into the scoring bonanza. The only hits for the Blue Demons (0-3, 0-3) were singles by Joe Zirolli and David Villafane.

Allen Barry secured the mound win.
