Shanahan’s Josh Hoey shatters national 800 meter indoor record

Josh Hoey of Bishop Shanahan broke the national indoor high school record in the 800 meters at Boston University’s Last Chance Meet Sunday.

Opting to participate in the national meet over the PTFCA Indoor State Championships, Hoey clocked in at 1:47.67 to finish second in his race and break Robby Andrews’ 2009 time of 1:49.21.

Hoey, a senior, ran 1:51.49 at the State College Invitational last week to set the stage for his record-setting run. Hoey’s time also breaks the all-time state record of 1:50.55, set by Bensalem’s Kyle Francis in 2014.
