Shanahan’s Conners places 2nd; Shevlin, Brown, Montgomery, Gianelos advance

LIMERICK – Bishop Shanahan’s Ryan Conners shot a second straight one-under par 71 but it wasn’t quite enough as the Eagles senior had to settle for the silver medal at the District One Class AAA boys golf championship Tuesday at Turtle Creek GC.

Conners’ total of 142 was bettered only by Spring-Ford junior Ben Pochet, who captured the gold with the low round of the day (69) that left him at 141. Defending district champion Kyle Vance of Methacton settled for third at 71-72-143.

First-round leader Luke Shevlin of Rustin and Kennett’s Evan Brown, the Ches-Mont individual champion, qualified for Regionals, tying for seventh at 147. Rounding out the Ches-Mont golfers to move on to Regionals were Downingtown East’s Wills Montgomery and Unionville’s Nick Gianelos. Gianelos was right on the cut line at 9-over 141.

Great Valley’s Stephen Borst and Unionville’s Jack Niemkiewicz came up short of moving on to the next phase of the postseason.
