Rustin, Unionville, Kennett, Shanahan take district openers

(12) West Chester Rustin 16, (21) Hatboro Horsham 10 – The Golden Knights (15-3) stretched their winning streak to five behind a strong second half and the combined 12 goals posted by Ava Kane, Ashley Chisholm and Grace Plona in the opening round of the District 1-3A playoffs Tuesday.
Leading by just 7-6 at the break, Rustin turned it up in the second half with a 9-4 advantage to advance to the second round of districts Thursday (7 pm) at No. 5 Abington, which drew a first-round bye.

(16) Unionville 16, (17) Wissahickon 10 – The Indians (12-7) moved on to the second round of the District 1-AAA playoffs with the opening-round triumph, triggered by Mina Scott’s game-high seven goals. Unionville draws top-seeded Harriton on the road Thursday (4 pm).

(20) Kennett 13, (13) Spring-Ford 11 – Claire Borman scored four goals, Lily Sandusky and Maddie Fowler registered hat tricks and Sydney Heimann was solid in goal with six saves for the Blue Demons (13-6) in their opening-round triumph in the District 1-3A playoffs.
Kennett, which set the tone with a 10-4 edge in the first half, plays at Ches-Mont League rival and fourth-seeded Downingtown West in the second round Thursday (4 pm).
 
(4) Bishop Shanahan 15, (13) Strath Haven 7 – The Eagles advanced to the quarterfinals of the District 1-AA tournament with the wire-to-wire victory, sparked by Jess Holowsko’s four goals and hat tricks from Gianna DeCesaris and Liv Murphy. Jess Gorr was strong in goal with 12 saves for Shanahan (14-5), which hosts (5) Upper Moreland Thursday (4 pm) with a state playoff bid hanging in the balance.
