Rustin falls just short of CB East despite Hadfield’s 11 saves

(1) CB East 1, (16) Rustin 0 – Meg Hadfield collected 11 saves as the Golden Knights gave the top-seeded Patriots all they could handle before suffering the season-ending loss in the second round of the District 1-3A playoffs Wednesday.

“It was a total team effort, every player gave everything she had,” said Rustin coach Susie Macciocca after her club finished 10-8-1 on the season. “It felt great to end this week playing our best, most aggressive hockey of the season against the top-ranked team in District One.

“Just before midway through the first half we changed our style of play, using big balls out of our defensive end to break through their first layer of defense while stretching our attack as high as possible. Each player responded to this adjustment well and it paid off. The team had multiple opportunities to score and ended the game with a fast break CB East’s keeper was able to fend off.”
