Roundup: West Chester Rustin overcomes Mount St. Joseph

WEST CHESTER – West Chester Rustin saved its best for last, overcoming a six-point deficit with a dominating fourth quarter en route to a 51-46 nonleague girls basketball conquest of perennial powerhouse Mount St. Joseph Academy Saturday.

Trailing 38-32 entering the final frame, the Golden Knights (2-3) turned things around with a 19-8 surge, getting a pivotal three-pointer from Erin Gallaher during the run.

Noelle Powell hit for 15 points and Emily Walls added 13 as Rustin won its second straight, offsetting the double figures scoring of Sarah Wills (12 points), Mary Kate Ulasewicz (11) and Libby Tacka (10) for the Mount.

West Chester Henderson 58, Octorara 17 – The Warriors ran out to an 18-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back in winning their third straight.

Jenna Maratea had 13 points to lead the way for Henderson, which also got strong efforts from Julie Gawrylowicz (9 points, 8 rebounds), Maddie DePrisco (8 points), Morgan Maturani (7 rebounds, 4 blocks) and Brynn Cullinan (8 rebounds). Brielle Kirk finished with nine points for the Braves.

Wilson 34, Kennett 28 – Caroline Hertz connected for 13 points and Miranda Hill added 12 but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Demons suffered the nonleague setback. Kennett was outscored 19-5 in the middle two quarters.

Penncrest 40, Avon Grove 22 – The Red Devils were outscored 24-9 in the second half in dropping the nonleague decision. Sam Martino finished with 18 points to pace Penncrest.

Phoenixville 33, Oxford 27 – The Hornets slipped to 0-4 despite the game-high 14 points posted by Hannah Bahls. Dakota Graham had 10 points and Nomi Washington finished with 8 for the Phantoms.
