Roundup: Weiderhold ‘helps’ Cougars notch Ches-Mont win

DOWNINGTOWN – Brittany Weiderhold came up with four assists while Lauren Pittman and Brenna Warren had two goals apiece to carry Downingtown East to a 6-0 Ches-Mont League girls’ soccer blanking of Sun Valley Monday.

Also picking up goals for the Cougars, who led 3-0 at the break, were Kara Reifsnyder and Emma Steigerwald.

West Chester Henderson 2, Octorara 1 – Kailee Coonan snapped a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 45th minute and the Warriors held on for the Ches-Mont triumph. Madeline Weaverling of Henderson and Erin Simpson of Octorara exchanged goals in the first half, setting up Coonan’s heroics.

Unionville 4, Oxford 0  –  Lindsey Cicchino and Quinn Benintende fired in two goals apiece to pace the Indians, who got three saves from keeper Adrianna Weber in posting the shutout. For the Braves, keeper Tara Bender picked up six saves.

West Chester Rustin 2, Great Valley 1 – Alexa Bushey found the left corner of the net from 20 yards after collecting a through ball from Mackenzie Moore in overtime to spark the Golden Knights. Moore had the other goal for Rustin, which got four saves from keeper Julie Griesemer. For the Patriots, Hannah Chenard had a goal and Carol Burgess finished with six saves.

Kennett 2, Coatesville 1 – Liz Dawyot snapped a 1-1 tie with a goal in the second half for the Blue Demons, who also got a strike from Codie Amitage and six saves from Danielle Phillips. For the Red Raiders, Skyler Zaplitny scored and Shannon McLaughlin was stellar in net with 14 saves.

Downingtown West 2, Avon Grove 0 – The Whippets got goals from Kerri Caruso and Amanda Tredway en route to the Ches-Mont National victory.
