Roundup: Brown’s arm, Stewart’s bat power Coatesville

COATESVILLE – Brian Brown fired a complete-game no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and Bobby Stewart drove in all three runs to power Coatesville to a 3-0 Ches-Mont League National Division win over West Chester East Monday afternoon.

Brown had a perfect game going until issuing a two-out walk in the sixth and wound up facing the minimum 21 batters. The Red Raiders (1-0) got all the offense they needed in the first inning when Stewart lashed a two-run homer. Stewart later added an RBI-single in the fifth for Coatesville, which got a pair of hits from Aaron Cummings.

West Chester Henderson 3, Downingtown East 2 – The Warriors pushed across the decisive run in the fourth inning on Christian Liero’s RBI-groundout en route to victory in the National opener for both schools.

In the third, winning pitcher Dave Reitman singled and gave way to pinch-runner James Pugliese, who promptly stole second, advanced to third on an infield error and scored on Liero’s grounder.

Downingtown East wasted 2-for-3 days at the plate from Tommy Marollo and Spencer Zuraski in falling to 0-1.
