Roundup: Balanced attack, second-half surge carry West Chester East past Henderson

WEST CHESTER  – West Chester East pulled away from a halftime standoff with four goals after the break en route to a 5-3 Ches-Mont League National girls’ soccer conquest of West Chester Henderson Wednesday.

Hayley Eshleman, Briana Girard, Hannah Specht, Maria Carsello and Shannon Moore all found the back of the net and Melissa MacPherson picked up seven saves for the Vikings, who improved to 1-2 in the league and 2-3 overall.

For the Warriors, Sydney Zandi, Julia Wood and Rachel Richardson came through with goals and Jenna Maratea contributed seven saves.

Downingtown East 0, Downingtown West 0 – The Cougars and Whippets played through 80 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods of 15 minutes each without denting the net in the Ches-Mont National neighborhood rivalry standoff.

Downingtown East goalie Kaelyn Johns and West’s Jessica Yanez matched efforts in net with three saves apiece. The Cougars are now 2-0-1 in the Ches-Mont while the Whippets stayed at .500 (1-1-1).

Avon Grove 4, Coatesville 0 – Rachel Fenstermacher cashed a pair of goals while Morgan Whiteside and Kelly Nelson added single strikes for the Red Devils, who did all of their scoring in the first half. For the Red Raiders, keeper Shannon McLaughlin finished with 11 saves.

West Chester Rustin 6, Sun Valley 0 – Cassie Cheeseman connected for two goals and Charlotte Elrod recorded two saves for the shutout to lead the Golden Knights to the Ches-Mont American win. Also finding the range for Rustin were Alexa Bushey, Valerie Thomson, Jenna Moser and Anushree Godbole.
