Reading rallies by Coatesville; Capitano’s 25 lift Great Valley; Furey-Bastian keys Unionville

Reading 63, Coatesville 51 – Tyrel Bladen posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds but the Red Raiders fell to 0-2 with the nonleague loss to the highly-touted Red Knights (3-1) Tuesday night at the Geigle Complex.
University of Miami coach Jim Larranaga was on hand courtside to watch Reading’s Lonnie Walker IV, who led all scorers with 21 points.
Also hitting double figures for Coatesville, which led 26-24 at the break but was victimized by a 15-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters, were Hassan Young (12 points) and Jhamir Brickus (10). Kamau Brickus added 9 for the Red Raiders.

Great Valley 47, Pottsgrove 38– Alex Capitano poured in 25 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the floor and handed out 3 assists to pace the Patriots to the nonleague victory. Also for Great Valley, Matt Porreca grabbed seven rebounds and Nate Graeff had 8 points.

Unionville 53, Henderson 48 – Bo Furey- Bastian hit four triples for 24 points, Andrew Burich added 13 points and Zeb Martelli blocked four shots as the Indians (1-2) nailed 13 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter to close out the nonleague win.
Burich buried four straight from the line and Brendan Barrett followed with two more foul shots to help Unionville pull away from a narrow 46-45 lead in the final 2:32 after Adrien Piel’s bucket closed the gap for the Warriors (0-3). Henderson got 17 points each from Chuck Smith and Joe Saulino in the loss.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 55, Bishop Shanahan 53, OT – The Eagles (2-1) were on the verge of pulling off the monumental upset, leading by 9 with 3:30 left, but the Colonials ratcheted up the pressure to forge OT and escaped with the win. David Angelo hit five three-pointers en route to 19 points and Kevin Dodds added 17 for Shanahan, which was outscored 19-8 down the stretch after holding a 45-36 third-quarter edge.
“Shanahan has a nice team,” PW coach Jim Donofrio said on suburbanonesports.com. “They have a nice nucleus back. A nice point guard who can hit threes. A tough big kid. We were giving up too many three-point looks. They played a 3-2 zone the whole night and we couldn’t get on track.”
