Old rivals Dickson, Hoegstedt advance to district singles final

SPRINGFIELD – Michael Dickson of Downingtown East and West Chester Henderson’s Karl Hoegstedt set up a rematch of the Ches-Mont League National singles final by advancing to the District 1-AAA championship showdown with semifinal wins Saturday at the Healthplex.
Dickson, the two-time Ches-Mont National winner, moved on with a hard-earned 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 conquest of Lower Merion’s Simon Vernier while Hoegstedt dispatched of Abington’s Dan Tornea 6-3, 6-4.
In the quarterfinal round, Dickson handled Upper Dublin’s Bryan Szayna in straight sets and Hoegstedt bounced Great Valley’s Nikhil Gangoli. Gangoli came back to top West Chester’s Rustin Luke Shevlin to reach the fifth-place consolation final in two weeks.
The district championship and consolation singles finals will be staged at the Healthplex Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m.
