Miles, Kirk key Coatesville effort; Great Valley’s Willig shines

BETHLEHEM – Coatesville’s Porsha Miles earned the gold medal in the 60 (7.94), qualifying for states and the Meet of Champions with her winning time at the Delaware Valley Girls Track Coaches Association meet at Lehigh University Friday.

Miles also joined Sammie Miller, Kaia Morse and Patty Rokins in the victorious 4×400 relay (4:06.12), that time also qualifying the Red Raiders for states and the Meet of Champions. Other top finishers for the Coatesville girls included Miller (4th, 300, 43.06), Darby Morgan (4th, shot put, 36-7.25) and Paige Henry (5th, 1000, 3:23.06).

Great Valley also had a solid showing at Lehigh, led by Amy Willig’s second-place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:00.05 that qualified her for states and the Meet of Champions.

Other Patriots qualiifying for the Meet of Champions were Sarah Merriwether (4th, high jump, 5-1), Siena Vestri (8th, shot put personal best, 32-8.5) and the third-place 4×400 relay team (4:13.73) of Veronica Yonce, Alicia Stevens, Gillian Yonce and Willig.

Downingtown West senior Morgan Alston earned a silver medal in the triple jump (35-8.50).

In the TFCA’s boys meet at Lehigh Saturday, Coatesville’s Eric Kirk took third in the 60 (7.160), qualifying for the Meet of Champions along with the following teammates: Artie Burgess (200, 23.90) and the 4×400 relay team of CJ Brown, Quil Ross, Artie Burns and Kirk (3:38.70).

Great Valley also had a great effort at Lehigh Saturday, led by Michael Search’s 10th in the 3,000 (9:39.62), Alex Siaton’s third in pole vault (11-9), Riley Casey’s eighth in the mile (4:44.39) and 4×800 relay team of Seth Hoffritz, Hayden Coates, Max Miller and Pierce Nolan placing 10th in 8:52.72.
