McCook, Downingtown East rule PAC championship

GILBERTSVILLE – Downingtown East senior Liddie McCook fired a 2-over-par 73 to capture the second Pioneer Athletic Conference (PAC)  girls golf championship of her career, outdistancing teammate and runnerup – D-East freshman Ava O’Sullivan –  by six shots Thursday.

McCook, whose other individual title in 2016 bracketed second-place finishes in 2015 and 2017, and O’Sullivan qualified for the upcoming District 1 championship with their stellar perfomances, and will be joined in the two day district event beginning Oct. 8 at Gilbertsville by D-East junior Anisha Sonti, who finished sixth with a 90.

All told, 11 players automatically qualified for districts including Ches-Mont League golfers Lily Bryne (fourth, 83) and Rosie Byrne (tied 7th, 94) of Downingtown West and the D-East trio. Great Valley’s Mae Sharaf, who tied for 13th with a 97, is one of six alternates for the district tournament. While 95 was the target score to qualify, special consideration was given because of the extremely wet conditions at Gilbertsville.
