Kingsbury, Gucwa, Goforth lead Bishop Shanahan back to state final

EMMAUS – Tyler Kingsbury ruled the faceoff circle with 20-26 efficiency, Kyle Gucwa cashed six goals and two assists and Gabe Goforth chipped in with four goals and two assists as Bishop Shanahan went wire-to-wire to handle District 2 champion Crestwood 20-6 in the PIAA Class AA semifinals Tuesday at Emmaus.

Shanahan (21-1), which was never challenged after grabbing leads of 5-0 and 10-2 in the opening two quarters, will defend its state title Saturday (2:30 pm) against District 3 champion Hershey (19-5) – a 10-9 winner over Strath Haven – at West Chester East. Last year the Eagles topped Strath Haven in the finals.

Owen Murray added two goals and three assists for Shanahan, which expanded a 10-2 halftime advantage to 18-4 with an 8-2 run in the third quarter.

Crestwood got two goals each from Anthony Caporuscio and TJ Kulak. Caporuscio, a junior attackman, finished the year with 115 goals and has a state record 320 overall.
