Kennett prevails in OT behind LaCosta, Matthews; Smuda powers Downingtown East

Kennett 67, Great Valley 63, 2 OTs – The Blue Demons’ Katie LaCosta hit a buzzer-beating layup at the end of regulation to send the Ches-Mont League American Division showdown to overtime Thursday, and Ellie Matthews’ clutch three-pointer late in the second extra session sealed the deal in Kennett’s win.
Andrea Prestianne led the Blue Demons with 24 points and Matthews added 20, offsetting the double figures posted by Tessa Liberatoscioli (23 points), Katie Peduto (13) and Ashley Sullivan (11) for the Patriots.

Downingtown East 49, West Chester East 46 – Bella Smuda ruled the paint with a game-high 29 points and the Cougars used an 11-7 run in the fourth quarter to reverse a 39-38 deficit.
Smuda had 6 points and Caroline Brennan cashed 5 of her 7 in the final frame to help D-East overtake the Vikings, who got 17 points from Marissa McDonald and 11 from Lauren Klieber.

Avon Grove 56, Unionville 50 – The Red Devils seized control from the jump, bolting out to a 13-3 first quarter lead and holding on from there behind Jamie Perkins’ career-high 33 points that included five three-balls.
Amanda Smida added 12 for Avon Grove, countering the double figures scoring of Emma Dempsey (16 points) and Anna Iacocca (12) for the Indians.

Coatesville 41, Bishop Shanahan 34 – Sarah Huston led all scorers with 19 points, hitting 13 of 15 from the free throw line, as the Red Raiders swept the Ches-Mont National season series behind a sturdy defense that limited the Eagles to just nine points in the first half. Kathryn Greenhut scored 15 points to lead Shanahan., which only trailed 22-20 before Coatesville closed things out with a 19-14 edge in the fourth quarter.

Henderson 57, Downingtown West 30 – The Warriors cruised to the Ches-Mont National triumph behind Michaella Meredith (20 points, 9 rebounds) and Grace Ferguson (13 rebounds, 4 blocks). Kyla Campbell and Kristin Rivituso were also strong forces in the paint for Henderson, combining for 11 boards.  
For the Whippets, who were never in it after falling behind 17-4 in the first quarter and 29-6 by halftime, Grace Wenner topped the scoring charts with 9 points.

Rustin 55, Sun Valley 30 –The Golden Knights rode a fast start and balanced scoring attack to the Ches-Mont American blowout win, building an insurmountable 34-11 by halftime and getting 11 points from Grace Plona and 9 each from Dikaya Daniels and Grace Shivers (3 treys).
Abby Seasock reached double figures for the Vanguards with 11 points, connecting three times from beyond the arc.
