Henderson sweeps at home; Palmer helps Great Valley improve to 2-0

WEST CHESTER – Henderson defended its home turf with a pair of victories in its season-opening tournament over the weekend – knocking off Haverford High Friday 1-0 on a Sam Martin goal before edging CB West 2-1 Saturday when Kevin Kiefer connected for the game-winning goal in the first OT.
Great Valley 2, Tulpehocken 1 – The Patriots improved to 2-0 in the young season with the narrow nonleague win, triggered by Liam Palmer’s tiebreaking header off a long Dean Fitzgerald throw in the 65th minute.
Great Valley also got a goal from Matt Wellender, who connected in the 12th minute with a long-distance strike from 25 yards out. Quinton Wrabley picked up six saves for the Patriots.
Ridley 4, Oxford 0 – The Hornets were blanked at the Vanguard (Sun Valley) Invitational Saturday.
