Henderson, Rustin capture season-opening wins

Henderson 45, Unionville 27 – Grace Ferguson filled the stat sheet with 7 points, 9 rebounds and 7 blocks while Erin Thompson (13 points, 4 assists) and Molly Manion (9 points, 5 assists) also had strong showings for the host Warriors in their season-opening win at the Henderson Invitational Friday night. Emma Dempsey finished with 11 points for the Indians.
Henderson meets Rustin and Unionville draws Coatesville in the conclusion of the four-team event Saturday.

Rustin 59, Coatesville 54 – Grace Plona dropped 21 points, Bec Magrone added 16 and Olivia Gatto chipped in with 9 to propel the Golden Knights to the season-opening win at the Henderson Tournament. For the Red Raiders, Neveyah Chester posted 20 points and Sarah Huston added 16.

Great Valley 43, Avon Grove 17 – Tessa Liberatoscioli posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to key a balanced effort that carried the Patriots to victory in the season-opening Great Valley Tip-Off Tournament. Other key contributors for Great Valley, which faces Downingtown West Saturday in the tourney finale, were Mia DeRobertis (12 rebounds), Amanda Heins (11 points) and Katie Peduto (9 points).

Oxford 37, Chester 28 – Anna Hampshire collected 9 points while Cristina Fernandez and Julia Alesi added 8 apiece to pace the Hornets to the season-opening win in the Phoenixville Tip-Off Tournament. Oxford, which faces host Phoenixville in the tourney championship game Saturday, overcame a one-point halftime deficit with a shutdown defensive effort in the second half, limiting the Clippers to just 8 points after the break.
 
Lansdale Catholic 53, Kennett 45 – Andrea Prestianne netted 15 points and a trio of trifectas, Gina Lusvardi added 13 and Ellie Matthew chipped in with 9 for the Blue Demons in their season-opening loss at the Methacton Tournament. Kennett, which was unable to erase a 20-point, second quarter despite a 15-0 run, faces Ridley in Saturday’s consolation game at Methacton.
