Henderson falls to Lower Dauphin in opening round of states

(3-3) Lower Dauphin 7, (1-1) Henderson 2 – The Warriors’ memorable season came to an unceremonious conclusion with the loss to Lower Dauphin in the opening round of the PIAA Class 5A playoffs Tuesday at Widener University.

Henderson, which ran the table as the No. 8 seed en route to the District 1-5A championship, fell behind 2-0 in the first inning and never recovered, climbing back within 3-2 in the sixth before the Falcons put things away with four runs in the seventh inning keyed by Tommy Bramley’s three-run homer off reliever Justen Lucas.

Evan Spano was the hard-luck loser, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out nine and walking one in six innings.

Brady Bash and Casey Caufield drove in runs during the two-run sixth for the Warriors, who had the potential tying run on third in the frame before Thomas Caufield was robbed of a hit on a hot shot to first base.

Henderson, which had just four hits and committed three errors, finishes its season 15-9 while Lower Dauphin moves on to face District 2 champion North Pocono (9-1 winner over 1-4 Wissahickon) in the state quarterfinals Thursday.
