Henderson, Bishop Shanahan sweep season-opening meets

BOYS SWIMMING
Henderson 100, Rustin 86 – Dylan Smothers and Tie Manuel were double winners for the Warriors in their season-opening win over their neighborhood rivals Wednesday.
Smothers touched first in the 200 IM (2:00.85) and 500 free (5:00.06) while Manuel placed first in the 100 free (52.44) and 100 back (57.06). Other strong performances for Henderson came from PJ Cronauer (200 and 500 free), Noah Carnuccio (50 and 100 free) and Will Merrill (diving).
Colin Breiner led the Golden Knights’ effort with wins in the 50 free (23.28) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.92) while teammates Alec Pirone (diving, 301.90), David Bussard (200 free, 1:56.13) and Nick Lutcavage (100 fly, 54.87) also grabbed first-place finishes.
Bishop Shanahan 95, Oxford 45 – The Hornets got double-victories from freshman Ryan Topmiller (200 free, 100 fly) and senior Michael Fazio (200 IM, 100 free) in their season-opening loss to the Eagles.
 
GIRLS SWIMMING
Henderson 105, Rustin 76 – Double individual winners Courtney Marlin, Krista Marlin and Katie Simpson keyed the season-opening victory for the Warriors Wednesday.
Courtney Marlin touched first in the 200 free (1:55.12) and 100 fly (57.36), Krista Marlin followed suit with wins in the 200 IM (2:08.23) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.29) and Simpson capped the dominating performance with victories in the 50 free (25.65) and 100 free (56.15).
Other winners for Henderson included Lili Horenkamp (diving, 250.75), Rylee Kelly (500 free, 5:27.20) and Julia Li (100 back, 1:03.54).
Erin Koczur, Tara Brosnan and Grace Ibach had strong showings for the Golden Knights in the setback.
Bishop Shanahan 95, Oxford 66 – The Eagles took the season opener despite the winning efforts produced by freshman Grace Burns (50 free), sophomore Ainsley Elmer (500 free) and senior Amanda Quesenberry (diving, PR 211.40 points) for the Hornets.
