Grintz brothers lift Downingtown West; Avon Grove rallies for 5th straight win

Downingtown West 3, Oxford 1 – The Whippets (13-5) tuned up for the District 1-6A playoffs with the Ches-Mont League crossover win Wednesday.
Adam Grintz went the distance for the victory, allowing just five hits and one unearned run while walking one and striking out 12. Offensively, Eric Grintz pounded a two-run double in the fifth inning to help D-West overcome a 1-0 deficit.
For the playoff-bound Hornets (10-7), Ryan Santangelo was 2-3 with an RBI-single in the third inning to produce the early 1-0 lead.
 
Avon Grove 3, Henderson 2 – Andrew Nole’s RBI-single in the fifth inning snapped a 2-2 tie and carried the streaking Red Devils (12-6) to their fifth straight win in Ches-Mont National  action.
Nole’s clutch hit capped a three-run uprising that included RBI from Dan Luettgen and Bryce Porter earlier in the frame.
Casey Caufield’s two-run homer off Avon Grove ace Karl Schmidt in the top of the fifth inning had given the Warriors a 2-0 lead before the implosion at the bottom of the frame.

Kennett 7, Unionville 6, 8 innings – Mitch Balint walked it off with an RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Blue Demons (8-9) past the Indians in Ches-Mont American action.
Unionville (6-11), which got three hits from Kyle Lyons and Connor Schilling (2 RBI, 3 runs), had built a 5-0 lead before Kennett struck for five runs in the sixth.

Rustin 10, Conestoga 4 – The Golden Knights (10-8) rallied for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit and post the nonleague verdict.
Matt Fricker drove in three runs with a double and home run, Dylan Demarco was 3-4 at the top of the order with two runs and two RBI and Ben Watson finished 2-4 with a double and two RBI to key the Rustin attack.
Andrew Hoff pitched five no-hit innings for the win, allowing one unearned run while walking five and fanning six.

Chichester 4, Sun Valley 3 – The Vanguards slipped to 6-13 overall with the nonleague loss as Josh Hankins delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning for his third RBI to pace the Eagles.
Kenny Jensen took the loss despite going the distance for Sun Valley, which had locked things up at 3-3 with two runs in the top of the seventh before Hankins settled the score.
Ryan Kester and Danny Nearey picked up RBI for Sun Valley with Nearey and aEvans Fook collecting two hits each.
