Girls hoops: West Chester East, Kennett, Coatesville record wins

West Chester East 46, Henderson 42 – The Vikings overcame a 17-6 first-quarter deficit behind Marissa McDonald (21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists), Megan Merten (15 points, 6 rebounds), Lauren Klieber (7 points, 10 rebounds) and sophomore point guard Mary Grace Kerns to tighten up the Ches-Mont League National Division race Tuesday night.
McDonald had 13 of her game-high 21 points and Merten 8 of her 15 in the second half for WC East (5-3 league, 10-5 overall), which outscored Henderson (6-2, 12-3) 24-13 after the break to avenge a 41-30 loss earlier in the season and move within one game of the divisional lead.
For the Warriors (6-2, 12-3), who had an eight-game winning streak snapped, Molly Manion scored 17 points and Grace Ferguson added 14.

Kennett 49, Oxford 26 – Ellie Matthews hit for 19 points and four triples and Andrea Prestianne added 15 with two more treys as the Blue Demons (6-1, 11-4) overcame a sluggish start to post the wire-to-wire Ches-Mont American win. Anna Hampshire cashed 8 points and Cristina Fernandez added 7 for the Hornets (2-5, 5-8), who were within 5-4 after one quarter but quickly fell off the pace by the intermission at 19-11.

Coatesville 66, Downingtown West 51 – Freshman Danae Ellzy dropped five three-pointers while scoring a game-high 22 points, Dasani Peoples added 19 with three treys and Sarah Huston contributed 12 in the Ches-Mont National victory for the Red Raiders (4-4, 6-10). Ketlee Staz scored 12 points to pace the Whippets (0-8, 2-13).

Great Valley 59, Sun Valley 24 – The Patriots built a 30-6 halftime lead and cruised the rest of the way in their Ches-Mont American romp. Tessa Liberatoscioli poured in 19 points and Ashley Sullivan added 10 for Great Valley (5-2, 9-5) while Abby Seasock hit three treys to finish with 11 for the Vanguards (0-8, 1-14).
