Fidanza propels Bishop Shanahan to 15th place finish at states

Bishop Shanahan junior Jack Fidanza led the way as the Eagles placed 15th with 39 points at the PIAA Class AA swimming championships Wednesday and Thursday at Bucknell University.

Thursday, Fidanza placed seventh in the 500 freestyle (4:46.90) and swam the anchor leg in the 400 free relay, combining with Nicholas Scott (sophomore), Ryan Powell (junior) and Patrick Taylor (freshman) to finish 13th (3:22.45).

Fidanza finished 10th in the 200 free (1:44.88) and anchored the 11th-place 200 free relay (1:30.72) group that also included Scott, Nate Fraser (junior) and Taylor during Wednesday’s opening session.

In the Class AA boys team standings, Erie Cathedral Prep (217), Lower Moreland (157) and Bishop McDevitt earned the top three spots.

The Class AAA boys and girls portion of the state championship meet will be held Friday and Saturday at Bucknell.
