Downingtown West stays hot; Avon Grove, WC East keep pace

DOWNINGTOWN  – Marissa Seese had two doubles and a single to key a 14-hit attack that carried Downingtown West to a 10-2 Ches-Mont League win over Bishop Shanahan Monday.
Seese also worked three innings in relief behind winning pitcher Emily Williams, who allowed no runs and one hit while striking out four in four innings. Also for the Whippets (8-5 league), who broke things open with six runs in the third, Jamie Rothenberger, Ally Scullin, Alicia Wagner and Ashley Burgette collected two hits apiece. The Eagles fell to 2-10 with the loss.

Avon Grove 5, Downingtown East 0 – Maggie Balint fired a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts against just one walk and collected a pair of doubles to lead the Red Devils (11-2) past the Cougars (7-5).
Courtney Gall, Alli Wallauer, Logan Needham and Taylor Volko all drove in runs as Avon Grove snapped a scoreless deadlock with three runs in the fourth before tacking on two more in the sixth.

West Chester East 8, West Chester Henderson 3 – Olivia Rogers went the distance for the victory and Leah Ritchey drove in a pair of runs to help the Vikings (11-2)  stay in a first-place tie with Avon Grove in the C-M National.
WC East took control with six runs in the second inning and held off the Warriors (5-8) down the stretch. Sam Fouracre led the way for Henderson at the plate and in the circle, pitching 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief while driving in two runs with a pair of singles.

Sun Valley 2, Octorara 1 – Freshman Madison Gutowiecz was dominant in the circle, allowing six hits and one unearned run while racking up six strikeouts against just one walk for the Vanguards (5-9).
Offensively, catcher Brooke Duplicki was 2-3 at the plate with an RBI, Taylor Potter went 2-3 and Mackenzie Lewis was 2-4 with a run scored. Lauren Greist has a single and double for the Braves (0-13).

West Chester Rustin 6, Unionville 1 – Caela Abadie limited the Indians to three hits and helped her own cause with a single, double and RBI for the American Division leading Golden Knights (10-4), who also got a 2-4 outing at the plate from Lindsay Mitchell.
Unionville (4-8) led 1-0 before Rustin scored three times in the third and fourth innings to take charge.

Kennett 11, Oxford 3 – Chloe Chapman drove in a pair of runs with two singles and a home run, Cali Beeson went 3-5 with a double, three runs and three RBI and Kylee Harvey had three hits and two RBI for the Blue Demons (7-5). The Hornets (3-9) wee sloppy in the field with five errors and had no answer for Kennett’s 18-hit attack.
