Downingtown West ends 10-year title drought; Lawson lifts Sun Valley by Great Valley

Downingtown West 8, West Chester East 2 – The Whippets clinched their first Ches-Mont League National Division title since 2009 by posting the win in a one-game, winner-take-all playoff for the crown Thursday.
Natalie Beebe went the distance in the circle for the win, striking out 10 and allowing just five hits, helping herself at the plate with two RBI.
D-West pulled away from a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth – triggered by Beebe’s two-run double and Brooke Dailey’s RBI groundout before tacking on four insurance runs in the seventh. Cait Coker set the tone at the top of the order with two triples, including a leadoff three-bagger in the seventh to keep the momentum rolling.
The victory was the sixth straight for D-West (19-2), which will draw a first-round bye in the District 1-6A tournament as the No. 4 seed.
For the Vikings (18-3), who had an 11-game winning streak snapped, Kelsey McLaughlin (double) and Amanda Gomez (triple) drove in runs.
WC East is the No. 1 seed in the District 1-5A field and will host (16) Pope John Paul II Monday in the opening round.
Sun Valley 5, Great Valley 1 – Winning pitcher Brianna Lawson delivered a complete game three-hitter and helped her own cause with a pair of hits as the Vanguards secured the Ches-Mont American win.
Also for Sun Valley, Madison Koons and Alayna Lloyd knocked in two runs apiece while Breezy DiMaio and Kylie Kane joined Lawson with two hits each.
