Downingtown West, Downingtown East drop into loser’s bracket

(14) Methacton 2, (6) Downingtown West 1, shootout – The Whippets ruled the stat sheet but were unable to finish at the cage with any frequency while dropping the District 1-3A quarterfinal decision Friday.
Claudia Jaszczak scored the equalizer after the break for D-West, which will face neighborhood rival Downingtown East with a state playoff bid hanging in the balance Tuesday (7 pm).
Alexa Kratz and Rachel Alderfer connected for goals in the shootout as the Warriors (14-7) punched their ticket to the state playoffs.
Methacton goalie Molly Frey was brilliant all day, collecting 26 saves in regulation and overtime before stopping four more D-West shots in the shootout. Alderfer had a first-half goal to provide an early 1-0 lead but the Whippets drew even when Jaszczak found the range.
