Downingtown East’s McCook advances to Regionals

LIMERICK – Liddie McCook of Downingtown East was the lone Ches-Mont League girls golf competitor to qualify for the Regional Tournament, capturing the eighth and final spot at the District 1-AAA championships Tuesday at Turtle Creek GC.

McCook finished at 22-over 165, backing up her opening round 81 at Gilbertsville with a 12-over 84 at Turtle Creek. Great Valley’s Liv Juliana was the first player beneath the cut line, placing ninth at 83-84-167 . Also failing to advance was West Chester East’s Georgia Naples, who was 14th among the 16 players that moved on from the opening round at Gilbertsville GC.

Conestoga’s Samantha Yao blew away the field with an even par round of 72 at Turtle Creek following a 79 at Gilbertsville in the opening round. Yao was four shots clear of Radnor’s Gabby Kim and 10 ahead of Gabby’s sister and Radnor teammate June Kim – the silver and bronze medalists.
