Downingtown East’s Byrnes fires no-hitter; Clemens, Bock, Bankes power Coatesville


Downingtown East 14, Unionville 0, 6 innings – Avery Byrnes fired a no-hitter, striking out nine and retiring 16 of the final 17 batters she faced, and Steph Jacoby went 4-5 with a home run to center, driving in three runs, to power the Cougars to the Ches-Mont League crossover win Monday.
Byrnes helped her own cause at the plate with two hits and three RBI, while Chelsey Kacmar went 3-4 with a double and three runs. Defensively, D-East third baseman Val Ponto turned in a pair of strong plays to help preserve the no-hitter.

Coatesville 19, Great Valley 2, 6 innings – Coatesville pounded out 19 hits in defeating Great Valley. Phoebe Clemens had four hits including a double and home run and drove in 5 runs to lead the offense.  Kayla Bock (double, home run) and Rachael Bankes (double) added three hits apiece while Ashley Dowlin smashed a three-run homer in support of winning pitcher Natalie Florschutz (10 strikeouts). Erin Bevec and Amy McGee homered for Great Valley.

West Chester East 9, Avon Grove 1 – The Vikings took the Ches-Mont National decision behind Paige Olson (3-4, 2 boules, 3 RBI, 2 runs), Amanda Gomez (2-4, 2 RBI, run) and winning pitcher Jess Gomez (complete-game, 6-hitter).
Downingtown West 8, Kennett 4 – Cait Coker (3-3, 2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Taylor Posner (2-2, 2 walks) combined to score five runs for the Whippets, who got four scoreless innings of two-hit ball in relief from winning pitcher Natalie Beebe in the Ches-Mont crossover clash. For the Blue Demons, Amber Kahrs had two hits including a double.
Oxford 12, Sun Valley 11 – Gianna Coyle delivered a walk-off, RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth inning to carry the Hornets to the Ches-Mont American triumph.
Coyle keyed a 15-hit attack with five hits including a pair of doubles for Oxford, which also got two RBI each from Maddie Frank (home run) and Rachel Florio (double). Madison Koons led the Vanguards with a 3-3 outing, driving in four runs with two home runs. Hailey Lipka and Brianna Lawson also went deep for Sun Valley in the narrow loss.
