Downingtown East’s Berecz, Kennett’s Sheehan steal show at Whippet Invitational

DOWNINGTOWN  – Evelyn Berecz of Downingtown East and Kennett’s Alex Sheehan stole the show at the 6th Annual Whippet Invitational at Downingtown West Friday, with each athlete earning a pair of gold medals.

Berecz placed first in the triple jump (37-4) and 100 hurdles (15.87) while Sheehan was a double-winner in the shot put (45-1 ½) and discus (170-6) at the multi-school meet, staged in less than favorable weather conditions.

Other winners in the girls portion of the meet were  Downingtown East’s Victoria Rudolph (shot put, 32-4.5), Bishop Shanahan’s Renee Shultz (javelin, 98-7),  Oxford’s Miranda Nilan (high jump, 4-8), Downingtown East’s Victoria Randolph (shot put, 32-4 ½) and Emma Nuttall (long jump, 15-1) and Downingtown West teammates Emma Planck (800, 2:27.18) and freshman Grace Mucha (1600, 5:46.06).

In the boys competition, Bishop Shanahan’s Nate Alleyne took the 400 (52.51) to easily outdistance Ryan Barton of Downingtown West (54.48), Kennett’s Xavier Feliciano captured the pole vault (13-0) and Justin Kiefel of Downingtown West earned the gold in triple jump (40-11 ¼).
