Downingtown East, Rustin advance to girls hoops final

Downingtown East 55, Kennett 40 – Bella Smuda netted 17 points, Lauren Kent chipped in with 15 and Sara Geary added 11 as the Cougars went wire-to-wire for the semifinal win in the Ches-Mont League Final Four playoffs Saturday at West Chester East.
D-East (18-5), the regular season champions from the National Division which has now won seven straight, built leads of 10-5, 27-19 and 39-26 through the first three periods to advance to Tuesday’s league championship game against American champion West Chester Rustin.
In the other semifinal at WC East, the Golden Knights (17-6) unseated defending lead champion Henderson (National #2) 48-41 behind a 15-7 third-quarter run that reversed a 20-19 halftime deficit.
For the Blue Demons (15-8), the No. 2 seed from the American Division, Andrea Prestianne led all scorers with 18 points and Erin Fowler collected 8.
