Downingtown East falls short of Perkiomen Valley in district consolations

(7) Perkiomen Valley 60, (11) Downingtown East 53 – The Cougars (18-9) were unable to sustain a fast start in dropping the District 1-6A (9-11) playback decision Wednesday night.

Bella Smuda scored 17 points and blocked five shots, Erin Phelan hit for 15 and Olivia Williams added 9 with a trio of three-balls for D-East, which hosts (12) CB East Friday night (7 pm) for the 11th and final state playoff berth from 6A.

For the Vikings (21-7), who overcame a 13-point deficit with a strong second half, Megan Jonassen poured in 27 points, including the 1,500th of her career, and Taylor Hamm added 18. Gabby Marinacci hit a clutch trey with 4:00 left to put PV in front to stay.
