Downingtown East clinches state playoff bid behind Steigerwald, Lawton, Dunlop

ROYERSFORD – Downingtown East completed its difficult climb through the playback phase of the District 1-AAAA tournament Saturday afternoon, hanging a 2-0 loss on host (5) Spring-Ford to qualify for the state playoffs as the fifth and final entry from the district.

Coming off a 1-0 shutout of (2) Pennsbury in their first elimination game, the 11th-seeded Cougars set the tone early with goals from Emma Steigerwald in the 10th minute and Livi Lawton in the 15th minute and held on as keeper Courtney Dunlop made several  highlight-reel caliber saves in the second half to preserve the advantage.
