DeAngelo lifts state playoff-bound Sun Valley by Rustin; cold-shooting dooms Great Valley

(6) Sun Valley 47, (7) WC Rustin 41 – The Vanguards (18-7) doubled their pleasure in District 1-5A playbacks Wednesday night, locking up the program’s first state playoff bid since 1990 and celebrating a milestone for junior guard Vinny DeAngelo – who cashed 20 points including the 1,000th of his career.
In avenging a pair of regular season losses to Rustin, Sun Valley got consecutive three-point plays from Isaac Kennon – one conventional and the other a trey – to go up 40-39 with 2:47 left, then closed things out on Lance Stone’s traditional three-point play off a DeAngelo feed and Shahir Brown-Morris’ 2 free throws down the stretch.
