Brickus scores 52 points, leading Coatesville to state semifinals

(1-2) Coatesville 96, (1-6) Chester 82 – Jhamir Brickus poured in a career-high 52 points as the Ches-Mont League champion Red Raiders went wire-to-wire for the victory in the PIAA Class 6A quarterfinals Saturday at Spring-Ford High.
Brickus shot 16-28 from the field, including 5-9 from beyond the arc, hit 15-19 from the free throw line and added two steals and two assists for Coatesville (29-2), which moves on to face District 10 champion Kennedy Catholic (68-51 winner over District 7 champion Mount Lebanon) in the state semifinals Tuesday at a time and site to be determined.
Dapree Bryant posted a double-double with 22 points (9-19 FG) and 10 rebounds, falling just two assists short of a triple-double for the Red Raiders, who established control from the opening tip, bolting out to a 17-13 lead after one quarter and expanding it to 43-26 by the break.
The Red Raiders held Chester to 31 percent shooting from the floor (9-29) in the first half, countering that with 53 percent (16-30) shooting of their own during that stretch.
The Clippers, who were led by Michael Smith (25 points, 9-19 FG, 4 assists), Akeem Taylor (15 points, 6-11 FG, 8 rebounds), Rahmaad DeJarnette (14 points, 7 rebounds) and Zahmir Carroll (9 points, 11 rebounds) were unable to put a dent in the Coatesville cushion despite outscoring the winners 56-53 in the second half, finishing its season at 22-8.
