Boys lax: Avon Grove, Downingtown East set up showdown in district quarterfinals

(1) Avon Grove 10, (17) Haverford High 3 – The top-seeded Red Devils raced out to a 7-2 halftime lead and never looked back in recording the wire-to-wire victory Thursday in the second round of the District 1-AAA playoffs.
Nate Hammond dominated the center circle, winning 14 of 15 draws, while Jackson Muller and Joey Borcky keyed a balanced attack with two goals each for Avon Grove (16-1), which hosts Ches-Mont League rival (8) Downingtown East in the district quarterfinals Saturday (time TBA). D-East advanced with a 15-2 romp over (9) Pennridge Thursday.
