Bennink, Kim, McCook in the hunt at PIAA Championships

YORK – Unionville’s Connor Bennink, Victoria Kim of West Chester East and Downingtown East’s Liddie McCook are all within striking distance after the opening round of the PIAA Individual Golf Championships Monday at Heritage Hills Golf Resort.

Bennink fired a 5-over 76 for a sixth-place tie, three shots behind tri-leaders Palmer Jackson (Franklin Regional), Patrick Sheehan (CB East) and Andrew Wallace (Harriton) who all came in at 2-over 73. Also, Will Bennink of Unionville was 2 shots back of his brother after an opening-round 78 (7-over).

On the girls side, Kim is tied for eighth after an 8-over 80 and McCook is tied for 12th after posting a 10-over 82. North Allegheny’s Caroline Wrigley was the first-round leader with a 2-over 74 heading into the final round Tuesday at Heritage Hills. Unionville’s Charlotte Scully is 14 shots back of the lead after an 88 (+16).
