Avon Grove upends Downingtown West; Giombetti powers Great Valley

Avon Grove 5, Downingtown West 4 – The Red Devils built a 5-1 lead after four innings and held on down the stretch to post the Ches-Mont League National Division win Tuesday.
Andrew Nole was 2-for-3 with two RBI while Andrew Brady (solo homer), Pat Campbell and Riley Davis all drove in runs for Avon Grove, which got sharp work on the bump from Ryan Gerenser and Riley Davis.
Tommy Eliason belted a solo homer for the Whippets, who suffered their first loss of the season.

Great Valley 5, Octorara 4 – Pete Giombetti drove in four runs with a home run and double to lift the Patriots to the Ches-Mont American triumph.
Brendan O’Donnell nailed down the save with a perfect inning of relief that included two strikeoutsbehind starter and winner Connor Malloy.
For the Braves, who scored four runs in the fourth to close within 5-4 but were unable to get any closer, John Cummings (two doubles), Matt Rudisill and Jude Unitis had two hits each.

Downingtown East 4, Coatesville 2 – Zack Burton’s RBI-single triggered a two-run surge in the fifth inning that snapped a 2-2 deadlock and propelled the Cougars to the Ches-Mont National victory.
Mike Rodriguez (2-3), Connor Munnelly (2-4) and Joe Janick also drove in runs for D-East, which got lights-out mound work from winning pitcher Grant Umberger (3 IP, 6 K, 0 H, 0 R) and Hutch Gagnon (save).
